My next venture took me into the South African countryside, and the heart of the cape winelands.

Tucked away and surrounded by mountains, Franschhoek- whose names translates to French Corner, is a real gem, and yes, you guessed it! The top attraction here is wine tasting.

Everywhere you look there are vineyards, all offering wine tasting and the opportunity to wander around the vineyards. The food here is also nothing short of delicious, and the village is full of great little boutiques, gift shops and art galleries. It’s an idyllic getaway into the countryside.

Despite it being a popular destination and so very busy during season time, there’s something very relaxed about this place (although that could just be the wine…).  Cows are often found wandering around, on a Sunday morning you can see the locals making their way to Church dressed in their Sunday best, which usually incorporates an oversized hat. For the most part people can be found sitting in cafes drinking coffee and eating good food.

We (naturally) headed to a few vineyards, Leopards Leap, La Motte and Grand Provence to name a few. Of course our visit wouldn’t be complete without wine tasting, which we did at a quaint little vineyard called Rickety Bridge.
